The KAT Group of Companies was first established with the incorporation of KAT Technologies Sdn Bhd in 1994 by Datuk Ir. (Dr) Khairol Anuar Tawi. A major business opportunity came in the early years when KAT was appointed as distributor for telco prepaid products. The operations started with only three employees and a small distribution territory in the Northern States of Peninsular Malaysia in 1999.

It was a lot of hard work and learning on-the-go in the physical distribution of mobile prepaid cards which, at that point in time, was an emerging and innovative mobile service that was rapidly expanding on a global scale. KAT’s small team had to literally comb on foot street-by-street to register dealers as prepaid touchpoints. In the ensuing years, the entrepreneurial drive of our founder and a desire to ride the growth wave of prepaid service gradually led to the development of systematic daily activities, new operating procedures, cash and stock management, check and balance, and a basic in-house developed computerised order management and distribution system to handle the ever-increasing transaction volume.By 2014-15, the distribution complexity had increased tremendously as a result of territorial expansion awarded to KAT by our principals.

The enabler to this rapid growth of our prepaid distribution was the innovation that was introduced in stages into our computerised distribution system and the accompanying standard operating procedures. At the peak of KAT’s physical prepaid distribution operations, we were handling approximately 6 millions pieces of cards monthly. Our system was able to track the location of any one of these cards at any time along our supply chain which comprised a network of more than 10,000 dealers spread across nine States in Peninsular Malaysia. That was the degree of emphasis we had placed in our own operations and the standard we had set for ourselves back then, and which we still do to this day.
