Metal is placed on a tungsten filament. The metal and the parts to be coated are then brought into a vacuum chamber. The metal is heated until it starts to evaporate; this vaporised metal condenses on the part, forming a thin metal film. A variety of colours can be achieved using additional layers of spray coating.
